Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the Confinement Soup Package?

Each soup package includes individually packed dried herbal blends, one for each day (e.g., the 30-day package includes 30 individual packs).

Every pack is pre-measured and designed to be brewed fresh at home with added ingredients.

Are the soups ready to consume?

Our soups are not pre-cooked . Each pack contains a measured blend of premium dried herbs. To enjoy the full benefits, the dried herbs must be simmered at home following our simple preparation instructions.

All you need to do is add water, the herbs provided, and (if you wish) meat and rice wine. This takes around 5 minutes.

Then simmer the soup on the stove for about an hour. Or just 20 minutes in a pressure cooker.

That’s it. No complicated steps, just nourishing soup made simply at home.
The result? A fresh, nourishing soup made right in your own kitchen - no preservatives, no additives, just real ingredients and traditional care.

Who is it suitable for?

Our Confinement Soups are designed for mothers in the postpartum period, whether you've had a natural birth or a C-section. They're ideal for:

  • First-time or experienced mums looking for nourishing support after birth
  • Mothers following a full or flexible confinement plan
  • Those seeking easy, nutritious soups to aid rest and recovery
  • Breastfeeding mums who want warming, wholesome food to support their journey

No matter your birth experience or approach to confinement, our soups offer a gentle way to nourish your body during this important time.

Are your soups breastfeeding friendly?

Yes, our soups are designed with breastfeeding mums in mind. They include ingredients traditionally used in Chinese herbal cooking to support nourishment during lactation.

These ingredients have historically been selected to help replenish energy, support general wellbeing and are commonly included in postpartum diets. However, every body is different - we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider if you have specific concerns around breastfeeding or dietary needs.

Are your soups suitable for C-section recovery?

Yes, our soups are safe to consume after both natural and C-section births. Each blend is made from natural, food-grade herbs and is designed to be gentle and nourishing during your recovery.

However, we recommend omitting rice wine for at least the first 7–10 days after a C-section. In Traditional Chinese practices, alcohol is considered too stimulating for fresh surgical wounds. You can still enjoy the soup without wine - it won't affect the herbal benefits.

As always, if you have specific medical conditions or are taking medications, please consult your healthcare provider.

Are the soups based on Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Our Confinement Soups are based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a practice rooted in centuries of postpartum care. While every mother's journey is unique, traditional chinese philosophy recognises the importance of warming, nourishing foods to support the body's natural recovery process.

Our 3 Stages of Confinement Recovery reflects these traditional ideas, supporting mothers through the changing needs of early postpartum:

  • Stage 1 Warm & Nourish (Days 1-10): Traditionally, the first phase focuses on gentle internal cleansing and rest. The aim is to nourish and warm the body as it recovers from childbirth and prepares for the next phases of recovery.
  • Stage 2 Rebuild & Rebalance (Days 11-20): After childbirth, energy levels are often depleted. In this stage, traditional postpartum herbal soups often include heartier ingredients, reflecting the cultural belief in supporting balance, comfort and gradual renewal after birth.
  • Stage 3 Strengthen & Revitalise (Days 21-30): The final stage traditionally centres on nutrient-rich foods, with an emphasis on long-term nourishment and revitalisation as mums transition into everyday life.

How do I choose the right soup package for me?

We offer soup packs for 10, 20, 30, and 40 days, so you can choose what best suits your recovery needs, budget, and lifestyle.

  • 10-day pack – Great as a trial or short-term support
  • 20-day pack – A balanced option if you're easing into confinement care
  • 30-day pack – ⭐ Our most popular choice, designed to support you through a full traditional confinement period
  • 40-day pack – Ideal if you want a little extra nourishment beyond the first month

For most mums, we recommend the 30-day pack. It aligns with the traditional 30-day recovery method and provides a complete journey through all three stages of postpartum healing - from warming to replenishing to strengthening.

How do I prepare the soup?

Preparing your Golden Month Soup is simple:

  1. Rinse
Rinse the herbs from the soup pack in cold water to awaken them.
  2. Add ingredients
Add the rinsed herbs, 1.5L of water, 400g of meat (recommended meat is listed on the individual pack), and optional add-ons like 3 slices of ginger or 50ml of rice wine into a pot. Bring to a boil over high heat for 5 minutes.
  3. Simmer
Reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and let it simmer for 1.5 hours.
  4. Finish and serve
Add ½ tsp of salt, or adjust to taste. Each pack yields about 1L of soup, suitable for 2–3 servings.

Alternative cooking method

  • Pressure cooker: Use 1L water and cook for 30 minutes.
  • Slow cooker: Use 1.3L water and cook for 4-6 hours.

Enjoy your nourishing bowl of warmth and recovery.

What is the recommended intake?

Each soup pack is designed for one day, to complement a balanced diet.

It provides 2 to 3 servings and can be enjoyed throughout the day, ideally split between morning, afternoon and evening.

It’s important to consume the soups in the recommended sequence, one pack per day, to ensure your body receives the right support at the right time

Tip: Gently reheat before each serving to maintain warmth and maximise absorption.

When should I start drinking the confinement soups?

You can start as early as the day after giving birth, but there’s no need to rush. Many mums begin once they’ve returned home from hospital and settled in.

Whether you start right away or a few days later, you’ll still enjoy the full nourishing benefits of the soups throughout your recovery.

How to store the soup packs?

To maintain the freshness and quality of your premium herbal products, please store them with care:

  • Keep herbal packs in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, heat, or humidity
  • For best results, you may also store them in the refrigerator
  • Avoid exposure to moisture or high temperatures, which may affect the herbs’ potency

The shelf life is up to 1 year.

Are there any allergens in your soup?

Some of our soups may contain common allergens, such as:

  • Peanuts
  • Soy (from ingredients like black beans or fermented roots)
  • Gluten-containing grains (e.g. barley, where included)

All ingredients are clearly listed on each product page and soup label. While our dried herb packs themselves do not contain dairy, shellfish, or animal products, meat is often added during cooking and is optional.

Our soup packs are prepared in a facility that also handles nuts, gluten, soy, and sesame. While we take care in our processes, traces of common allergens may be present.

How do I get the most out of my confinement?

To fully support your recovery during this important time, we recommend combining a few key elements of traditional care. Pairing your confinement soups with Confinement Teas and Herbal Baths helps nourish your body both inside and out, promoting warmth, circulation and balance.

Nourishing, simple, and time-saving

I really appreciated how easy the 30 day soup pack made my postpartum meals. The herbs were already portioned, so I just added meat and let it simmer. no stress, even on the most sleep-deprived days.

The soups were deeply nourishing and encouraged me to eat better overall. I found myself reaching for more veggies and protein instead of processed snacks. It’s a great way to stay on track with recovery and nutrition without spending hours in the kitchen
