3 Stages of Recovery

The traditional framework trusted for postpartum recovery

  • Stage 1: Release & Repair (清,催)

The first days after birth are about gentle recovery. This stage focuses on clearing lochia, supporting uterine repair and encouraging milk flow. Warmth and nourishment help your body begin its path back to balance.

  • Stage 2: Regulate & Rebalance (调)

As your body stabilises, the focus shifts to harmonising digestion and improving nutrient absorption. This stage helps replenish Qi and blood while restoring steady energy through balanced nourishment.

  • Stage 3: Rebuild & Revitalise (补,养)

The final stage consolidates vitality for the long term. By nourishing the liver and kidneys, improving circulation and building reserves, this phase supports deeper renewal and lasting recovery.

The Traditional Approach to Lactation

  • In traditional Chinese theory, breast milk is formed from blood and body fluids, and its flow is influenced by energy (qi), warmth, digestion and circulation.

  • Red dates and longan are traditionally used to help nourish blood and body fluids. In some blends, small amounts of fenugreek, long used in Western herbal traditions, are included for its galactagogue qualities

Why Confinement Care Matters

In many Asian cultures, the month after childbirth is known as “confinement” (zuò yuè zi, “sitting the month”), a sacred window of rest, warmth, and deeply nourishing food to support recovery and renewal.

Childbirth leaves the body open, depleted, and vulnerable, yet uniquely receptive to restoration. The way a mother is cared for in the first 30 days is believed to influence her wellbeing for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this actually help my postpartum recovery?

From Customer Reviews

Based on all customer reviews, mothers consistently report measurable improvements in their physical recovery, energy levels, and milk supply during the critical first month postpartum.

  • Milk supply: First-time mothers specifically mention the soups helped their bodies recover from the significant changes of birth, with one customer noting her milk supply increased from 20-30ml colostrum to 150ml per session within just one week of drinking the soups alongside the lactation tea.
  • Energy restoration: Reviewers who remembered feeling "depleted and exhausted" with previous births emphasised how the soups gave them noticeably more energy during those demanding early weeks, helping them manage night feeds, nappy changes, and sleep deprivation.
  • Mental relief: Multiple customers describe how knowing their body was being "properly nourished" removed a huge mental load during a time when they were already overwhelmed, making the soups as valuable for mental wellbeing as physical recovery.

Are the soups ready to consume?

Our soups are not pre-cooked. Each pack contains a measured blend of premium dried herbs. To enjoy the full benefits, the dried herbs need to be simmered at home following our simple preparation instructions.

The result? A fresh, nourishing soup made right in your own kitchen. No preservatives, no additives, just real ingredients and traditional care.

Are your soups and teas breastfeeding friendly?

Yes, our soups and teas are designed with breastfeeding mums in mind. They include ingredients traditionally used in Chinese herbal cooking to support nourishment during lactation.

These ingredients have historically been selected to help replenish energy, support general wellbeing and are commonly included in postpartum diets. However, every body is different - we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider if you have specific concerns around breastfeeding or dietary needs.

Are your soups and teas suitable for C-section recovery?

Yes, our soups and teas are safe to consume after both natural and C-section births. Each blend is made from natural, food-grade herbs and is designed to be gentle and nourishing during your recovery.

However, we recommend omitting rice wine in the soup for at least the first 7–10 days after a C-section. In Traditional Chinese practices, alcohol is considered too stimulating for fresh surgical wounds. You can still enjoy the soup without wine - it won't affect the herbal benefits.

As always, if you have specific medical conditions or are taking medications, please consult your healthcare provider.

How do I prepare the soup, tea and bath?

Soup

Preparing your Golden Month soup is simple:

  1. Rinse
Rinse the herbs from the soup pack in cold water to awaken them.
  2. Add ingredients
Add the rinsed herbs, 1.5L of water, 400g of meat (recommended meat is listed on the individual pack), and optional add-ons like 3 slices of ginger or 50ml of rice wine into a pot. Bring to a boil over high heat for 5 minutes.
  3. Simmer
Reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and let it simmer for 1.5 hours.
  4. Finish and serve
Add ½ tsp of salt, or adjust to taste. Each pack yields about 1L of soup, suitable for 2–3 servings.

Alternative cooking method

  • Pressure cooker: Use 1L water and cook for 30 minutes.
  • Slow cooker: Use 1.3L water and cook for 4-6 hours.

Enjoy your nourishing bowl of warmth and recovery.

Tea

To make your Golden Month tea:

  1. Rinse
Rinse the herbs in cold water to awaken them.
  2. Add ingredients
Place the tea herbs, 1.3L of water, and optional ginger slices into a pot.
  3. Simmer
Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on low heat for 1 hour.
  4. Enjoy
Each pack yields 600ml to 1L of tea, depending on your preferred concentration. Suitable for 2 to 4 servings.

Alternative cooking methods:

  • Pressure cooker: Use 800ml water and cook for 20 minutes.
  • Slow cooker: Use 1L water and cook for 3 to 4 hours.

Bath

Simply place one herbal bath sachet into a basin or bathtub filled with hot water. Do not tear the white filter bag. Let it steep for about 3 minutes until the herbs are fully infused. Once the water reaches a comfortable temperature, you can use it to:

  • Gently wipe the body with a towel or sponge
  • Soak your body, feet or specific areas
  • Wash your hair (optional)

No boiling is required. Each sachet is suitable for 3-200L of water.

The sachet is designed for convenience, making it easy to enjoy a traditional postnatal ritual with minimal preparation.

How easy is it to prepare these soups?

From Customer Reviews

Based on customer reviews, new parents consistently report that preparation is simple enough for partners with no cooking experience to handle daily.

  • Partner-friendly preparation: Multiple reviewers specifically mention their husbands successfully preparing the soups, with one stating "they are very easy to prepare, even my husband can do it."
  • Pressure cooker simplicity: Customers report "just throwing everything together each day" with a pressure cooker and getting great results every time, with clear instructions eliminating guesswork.
  • Pre-organised daily packages: Each of the 30 days comes with its own customised package, so you don't have to think about what to make or measure ingredients during recovery.

What if I've never made traditional Chinese confinement soups before?

From Customer Reviews

First-time users with no traditional cooking experience report excellent results following the included instructions.

  • No experience required: Partners and family members with no background in Chinese cooking successfully prepared the soups daily, with one husband managing preparation while his wife recovered.
  • Foolproof instructions: Customers report the soups "turned out great" even when simply throwing ingredients together, indicating clear guidance that prevents mistakes.
  • Authentic results guaranteed: Reviewers familiar with traditional confinement practices confirm the soups deliver authentic nourishment and flavor without requiring specialised knowledge.

What is the recommended intake?

Soup

Each soup pack is designed for one day, to complement a balanced diet.

It provides 2 to 3 servings and can be enjoyed throughout the day, ideally split between morning, afternoon and evening.

It’s important to consume the soups in the recommended sequence, one pack per day, to ensure your body receives the right support at the right time

Tip: Gently reheat before each serving to maintain warmth and maximise absorption.

Tea
Most mothers drink 2 to 3 cups daily. Each pack yields approximately 600ml to 1L, suitable for 2 to 4 servings. You may sip it throughout the day, warm or at room temperature.

When should I start drinking the confinement soups and teas?

You can start as early as the day after giving birth, but there’s no need to rush. Many mums begin once they’ve returned home from hospital and settled in.

Whether you start right away or a few days later, you’ll still enjoy the full nourishing benefits of the soups and teas throughout your recovery.

Will I get bored eating soup for 30 days straight?

From Customer Reviews

The pack provides built-in variety with different customised recipes for each day, eliminating monotony throughout the month.

  • Daily variety: Reviewers specifically praise how the soups are "organised by day with customised packages" that provide different flavors throughout the 30-day period.
  • Consistently delicious: Customers describe the soups as "delicious" and "yummy" across the full month, with one stating "she enjoyed the variety and flavour of the soups and teas."
  • No repetition fatigue: Zero reviews mention getting tired of the soups, with multiple customers expressing they were "very happy with this package" through completion.

Can I add sweeteners or other ingredients to the tea?

The tea is naturally sweet and does not contain added sugar. You may add a slice of ginger for warmth or a small amount of rock sugar if desired, but we recommend keeping additives minimal.

Is the bath pack suitable for showers or baths?

It can be used for both. For a full-body soak, place the sachet in a bathtub filled with hot water and let it steep for 3 minutes before bathing. If you prefer a shower, you can soak the sachet in hot water, then use the infused water with a towel or sponge to gently wipe down the body. It can also be used for foot baths or as a warm compress.

I heard mums shouldn’t shower during confinement. Is that true?

The belief that new mums shouldn’t shower during the first 30 days of confinement comes from traditional practices in ancient China, where the climate was cold and homes had no heating or hot water. Back then, avoiding bathing helped prevent illness from exposure to cold wind and water.

Today, with modern amenities, regular hygiene is not only safe but encouraged. In fact, many TCM practitioners now recommend using warm herbal baths or sponge baths during confinement to support circulation, reduce dampness and promote recovery, as long as care is taken to stay warm and avoid chills afterwards.

Our herbal bath is designed exactly for that purpose: to provide a gentle, warming cleanse that aligns with both tradition and modern wellbeing.

How to store the herbal packs?

To maintain the freshness and quality of your premium herbal products, please store them with care:

  • Keep herbal packs in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, heat, or humidity
  • For best results, you may also store them in the refrigerator
  • Avoid exposure to moisture or high temperatures, which may affect the herbs’ potency

The shelf life is up to 1 year.

Are there any allergens in your soup and teas?

Soup contains peanuts, tree nuts (walnut), and gluten (barley). All products packed in a facility that also handles milk, egg, soy, sesame, seafood, other tree nuts, and gluten-containing cereals.

All ingredients are clearly listed on each label. While our dried herb packs themselves do not contain dairy, shellfish, or animal products, meat is often added in the soup during cooking but is optional.

Where are your herbs sourced from?

Our herbs are sourced from China. China is the primary growing region and global supply hub for traditional Chinese herbs. Many of these botanicals are native to specific Chinese provinces, where they have been cultivated for centuries under specialised growing conditions.

Sourcing directly from China allows us to access herbs from their authentic growing regions, where factors such as climate, soil, and traditional cultivation practices contribute to optimal quality. It also ensures better consistency, traceability, and selection compared with sourcing through secondary distributors or non-native growing regions.

All of our herbs are batch-tested and supplied with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). The COA verifies safety and quality, including testing for heavy metals and microbial levels.

For every herb we import into Australia, the relevant documentation (including the COA) is submitted as part of the import process. Shipments may also be subject to random inspection or testing by Australian authorities to ensure compliance with strict safety standards.

Are the herbs and ingredients actually fresh and high quality?

From Customer Reviews

Most customer reviews specifically highlight ingredient freshness as a standout feature.

  • Verified freshness: Reviewers consistently note "herbs were nice and fresh" upon delivery, with quality comparable to premium confinement services.
  • High-quality herb selection: Multiple customers who researched traditional confinement practices confirm "the quality of the herbs was good" and authentic to traditional recipes.
  • No quality complaints: Across all reviews from customers in Australia, zero negative feedback was reported about ingredient quality or freshness.
